Fat Joe has every door in New York open to him now, as he has officially received a Key to the City. Mayor Eric Adams presented the honor to him in the neighborhoods where he grew up.

The rapper is on a high after receiving the ceremonial key on Tuesday evening, just before his concert at Orchard Beach in the Bronx. Mayor Adams presented the key during the star-studded event. Before handing over the key onstage, Adams emphasized Fat Joe’s talent as a rapper and acknowledged his philanthropic efforts.

We previously shared Fat Joe’s efforts in advocacy, particularly his commitment to influencing lawmakers to enact legislation that enhances transparency in healthcare. He is deeply worried that everyday individuals are being exploited by medical corporations.

He made an appearance at a rally in Washington, D.C., alongside Wyclef Jean and Jelly Roll to advocate for the legislation. Over the past six months, he has also had several discussions with President Joe Biden regarding this matter and other important topics that resonate with him.

Receiving the Key to the City is a significant milestone, but it’s not his only recent accolade. In May, he was also awarded an honorary doctorate from Lehman College, where he acknowledged that his upbringing in the Bronx played a crucial role in shaping who he has become.

Recently, Mayor Adams revoked the Key to the City from another well-known rapper, Diddy, after the release of a video involving an alleged assault on Cassie, according to TMZ. The mayor expressed that he was “deeply disturbed” by the footage. Diddy returned the ceremonial key on June 10, just a week after receiving a letter from Adams, who emphasized his support for survivors of domestic violence.
