A shocking video captured the moment a scooter rider went on a random shooting spree across multiple neighborhoods in New York.
According to the NYPD, the attack lasted 27 minutes and the suspect traveled to five locations, from Brooklyn to Queens. The unidentified 25-year-old was taken into custody two hours after the first shooting which started around 11 am local time.
As the shooter made his way through the city, Surveillance footage caught the moment the suspect made a U-turn on Jamaica Avenue and 109th Street and began shooting toward a person in the opposite direction. An 87-year-old man can be seen being shot. He sadly passed away. Three others were seriously injured as a result.
As of now, officials do not know the motive, per NBC New York.
“We don’t know the motive. It seems his acts were random,” said Assistant police chief Joseph Kenny. “Video shows that he’s not targeting anybody – he’s not following anybody as he’s driving on his scooter; he’s randomly shooting people.”
“Numerous witnesses described the male on a scooter randomly firing at a group of people that was standing on the corner of 108th St and Jamaica Avenue,” he added. “At this time, we don’t know the motive. It seems that his acts were random. If you look at the demographics and pedigree of the victims, they’re all different at this time.”

While officers have not revealed the identity of the suspect, they did reveal that he only has one prior violation for a traffic-related incident. He was in possession of a 9mm pistol equipped with an extended magazine.
“Armed with an image of the suspect as officers fanned out across Queens,” NYPD Acting Police Commissioner Edward Caban reported when the assault first began. “The 9mm pistol had an extended magazine. Given the violence this individual was willing to carry out, I want to express my gratitude to the men and women in the NYPD.”
