Police charged Ina Thea Kenoyer,47, on Monday for the Sept. 5 murder of her boyfriend Steven Edward Riley, 51, and said it was caused by “financial motives,” the New York Post reported. Two days before his death, Riley had fallen ill after meeting with his lawyer to collect his inheritance money. However, Kenoyer didn’t call 911 until the following day, and paramedics found him unresponsive at his home in Minot.

He died hours after arriving at the hospital, and an autopsy report stated he was killed after ingesting antifreeze, and police claim Kenoyer fed it to him. Before her arrest, she went on Facebook and made multiple posts claiming her innocence and said Riley killed himself.

“To the Shafer that almost hit me, that’s not married hello hunny I wish I was looking for someone but no I’m a one man woman, kind person, and Steve Riley the only man I ever wanted,”

While speaking to police, Kenoyer said she planned to split the inheritance with his son. She explained that she felt entitled because she was his common-law wife, but the state does not acknowledge these relationships. However, his son expressed a different sentiment on Facebook and wrote: “Rest in peace dad… I had a feeling it was her with how everything played out, but f–k I wish we made plans to see each other sooner. Hope she gets what she deserves for taking you from this world.

Kenoyer is facing AA felony murder, which is a severe murder charge in the state. An AA felony murder charge is a crime that occurs when someone dies during the commission of certain felonies, including robbery, arson, rape, kidnapping, or burglary. To be convicted of AA felony murder, the prosecution must prove that the defendant caused the death of the victim while committing one of these felonies.
