North Carolina Flood Leaves 2 Dead And 20 Unaccounted For

Tropical storm Fred swamped away homes and roads Thursday in western North Carolina. According to CNN, two people have died and searches continue for others.

Authorities announced at least 20 people are unaccounted for in Haywood County after the storm slammed the area.

“Two Deceased victims have drowned” stated by Gov. Roy Cooper, but there names have not yet been released to the public.

One of the victims Cheri Mincey spoke out about this tragic storm, “I lost everything. My clothes, my jewelry, everything.”

Gov. Cooper has stated there has been about 200 water rescues. “The search and rescue efforts are not stopping until we know where people are or we’ve been able to find somebody, officials are utilizing cell phone tracking along with other ways of trying to find those unaccounted for or thought to be missing based on 911 calls.”

Casey Conard, assistant principle of Pisgah High School stated, “this is bad but the homes that are lost and the people, that’s the big thing,” he said. “The people in our communities, they’re just hurting right now.”
