Blake Nordstrom, the 58-year-old co-president of successful retail chain Nordstrom, passed away early Wednesday morning.

“My heart goes out to the Nordstrom family and everyone at the company during this difficult time,” announced Nordstrom Chairman Brad Smith. “Everyone who worked with Blake knew of his passion and deep commitment to employees, customers and the communities we serve. We are fortunate to have continued leadership from co-presidents Pete and Erik Nordstrom.”

The company had revealed in early December that Blake was diagnosed with lymphoma. However, his diagnosis was labeled as treatable and his family has announced that the death was unexpected. In a letter to his employees, Blake previously wrote,

“Fortunately, my form of lymphoma is treatable. My doctors and I are optimistic and encouraged by my prognosis.”

As of now, it is believed that the lymphoma was the cause of death, but, it has not been confirmed.

Nordstrom was the co-president of the retailer, a title he shared with his brothers Erik and Peter. His brothers will continue to lead the company, which is publicly traded but still run and controlled by the family.
