Miley Cyrus’ younger sister Noah Cyrus has opened up about her former battle with Xanax which ended up leaving her feeling like she was stuck in a “bottomless pit.” The 22-year-old, who rose to fame with her hit 2016 song “Make Me (Cry),” expressed to Rolling Stone how Xanax, also known as Alprazolam, was a drug she began using when her boyfriend at the time introduced her to try it.
While she doesn’t name her ex in the interview, fans have since taken to social media, recalling how Noah started seeing rapper Lil Xan in June 2018, though it’s unclear whether she was actually referring to him during the brutally honest chat with the publication. “It became a way for us to bond,” the “I Got So High That I Saw Jesus” singer said.

“I think I wanted to fit in with him. I wanted to be what he wanted and what he thought was cool and what I thought everybody was doing.” Noah admitted that getting her hands on Xanax wasn’t difficult since she was surrounded by people who were able to acquire it for her when needed. The Tennessee native added that she became dependent on the drug before it eventually began to cause havoc on her health and mental state.
“Once I felt that it was possible to silence things out for a second and numb your pain, it was over. It just kind of becomes this dark pit, bottomless pit,” Noah continued. During the pandemic, Noah expressed that she spent most of her time sleeping until the evening hours and that there was a significant memory loss as she noticeably struggled to recollect things from her past.
“I was completely nodding off and falling asleep, and unable to keep my head up or keep my eyes open, because I was so far gone. I’m not trying to be, like, any spokesperson for recovery or anything like that. I, myself, am just going through it and figuring it out.”
It was in late 2020 when Noah decided she wanted to turn her life around and ditch Xanax for good, and while the journey to her sober life away from the drug presumably wasn’t easy, the “July” hitmaker hopes that by sharing her story, it could potentially help her fans who’ve found themselves in similar situations.
Noah will release her debut album “The Hardest Part” in September, which includes the already-released singles “I Burned LA Down,” “Mr. Percocet,” and “Ready To Go.”
