No Criminal Charges For Officer Who Fatally Shot Capitol Rioter Ashli Babbitt
On Wednesday (Apr. 14), the Department of Justice announced that they would not pursue criminal charges against the U.S. Capitol Police officer who fatally shot 35-year-old Capitol rioter Ashli Babbitt.
Previously, we reported that the officer, whose name has yet to be released, was placed on administrative leave after fatally shooting Babbitt, an Air Force veteran from San Diego, CA, as she climbed through a broken part of a door during the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on January, 6, 2021.

For months federal prosecutors considered whether criminal charges were appropriate for the CP officer to face. Though expected, the department has released their decision and have closed the investigation officially. After reviewing video of incident and grabbing statements from the officer involved, other officers and witnesses, plus physical evidence and autopsy results, they decided, “Based on that investigation, officials determined that there is insufficient evidence to support a criminal prosecution.”
