The decision was made earlier today that the officer, Dejoure Mercer,  who shot and killed Dreasjon Reed will not face any criminal charges in the 21-year-old’s death. Six months prior to the decision, Mercer fatally shot Reed as the young man was streaming via Facebook Live but Special Prosecutor Rosemary Khoury stated there was not enough evidence or probable cause to formally charge him.

“This investigation has not been an easy task, and it’s been a very heavy burden. I am also very empathetic toward Officer Mercer. I know that had to be a difficult position to be in. No one wins.”

Khoury also said she believed in the justice system and claimed “justice was done” after the six jurors made their decision. She said it was a heavy burden since she is the mother of two black sons and felt empathy for Mercer. It was reported by MSN that the NAACP asked people to protest peacefully amid the grand jury’s decision as told by Chapter President Chrystal Ratcliffe.

“We, like Prosecutor Khoury, believe there are no winners in this tragic circumstance.  We need an ongoing dialogue that continues to reimagine policing within the greater Indianapolis community,”
