Grammy-nominated R&B singer Nivea has revealed her leukemia diagnosis during a recent episode of ‘Cadillac Chronicles.’ The 44-year-old confirmed she’s been going through cancer treatments and is just “very grateful for life” in this season.
While cruising the streets of her hometown of Atlanta, Georgia, Nivea told CC host Brian Freeman what she’s most grateful for. She replied:
“Oh my lamb! Well, first of all, I was diagnosed with leukemia earlier this year. And I am so grateful to God. I’ve been going through treatment and everything is going great…so far…and I expect it to continue. Amen! Amen! Amen! And I’m very grateful for life. You know—it’s so cliche to say, you don’t know the time nor the hour. But, it’s true and it just helped me put a lot of things into perspective. And I live in gratitude religiously. And I’m just grateful for everything. Like, I’m doing things I want to do. I’m definitely back into my music. And I’m going to school for audio engineering. I’ve always wanted to learn how to engineer, a mixing engineer in particular. But, in general, just doing all the things, honey. Loving on my children and just being grateful. Taking every opportunity that comes my way.”
When asked to share one of the biggest lessons she’s learned in her life to help her along her way, Nivea replied:
“Definitely don’t take anything for granted. Like, I definitely lived in my younger years. I kind of was just like—the days just flew. I was just doing what I was doing. I don’t know. It’s kind of like, you don’t recognize the short time we do have here and how everything is—I’ve always noticed the beauty in everything, though, I will say that. But, to be more present in the moment is definitely something I’ve learned. You can’t get this—this time will never occur again. Being more present in the moment. Counting the blessings and being more grateful. Because it’s easier to point out all the negative, but the universe — or God, whatever you want to call it, your ‘brain’ — will find the things you focus on. So, where the mind goes, energy goes. And so, I jus try to think of positive things. I’m a very optimistic person. If you focus on the bad, it will continue to show yo more of that. What you think and what you set your mind on is what becomes your reality.”
