YouTube personality and socialite Nikita Dragun has been released from jail, her rep has confirmed in a statement. The 26-year-old became a hot topic on Twitter earlier this morning as a video of her asking a judge whether she had to remain in a men’s unit following her arrest on Monday night went viral.
As previously reported, people on social media were very disturbed by the fact that Nikita, who her rep states “is legally female,” would be made to share a Miami jail ward with other men. Jack Ketsoyan of Full Scope Public Relations has since addressed the matter in a statement, saying, “The situation with Nikita, who is legally female, being placed in a men’s unit of a Florida jail is extremely disturbing and dangerous.”

He added, “This decision made by the Miami-Dade County Corrections Department directly violates their protocol, which mandates that transgender inmates are classified and housed based on safety needs and gender identity.” Nikita was jailed on Monday night at The Goodtime Hotel in Miami with felony assault of a cop, as well as misdemeanor battery and misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
People on Twitter were very vocal in saying that while many of them may not be fans of Nikita, they believed that her rights were undoubtedly being violated because she’s a transgender woman, implying that the corrections officers were making a mockery of her sexual identity.

Another person was just as concerned about Nikita being placed in a men’s unit, agreeing that her rights were clearly violated — even after she requested to be moved. “nikita dragun is facing a human rights violation by being put in a men’s jail — i don’t think that in this moment, whether or not you personally like her is the point,” they wrote.
Fortunately, Nikita has since been released from jail, though it remains unclear whether she plans on potentially taking legal action at this give point.
