Nike Will Continue To Support Sha’Carri Richardson: ‘We Appreciate Sha’Carri’s Honesty And Accountability’

Nike said in a statement that they will continue to support Sha’Carri Richardson after she accepted her 30-day suspension for testing positive for marijuana usage before the Olympics.

The company said on Friday that they appreciated the 21-year-old sprinter’s honesty after Richardson revealed on ‘Good Morning America’ that she smoked marijuana after learning about her mother’s death during an interview with a reporter. Nike’s statement reads, ‘We appreciate Sha’Carri’s honesty and accountability and will continue to support her through this time. 

According to the Daily Mail, it is unclear if Richardson will participate with Team USA in Tokyo later this month since her suspension finishes before the 4x100m relay.

Richardson said during her interview with GMA that she will be “grateful” if she is granted to participate in the Olympics with Team USA.

‘If I’m allowed to receive that blessing [to compete in Tokyo] then I’m grateful for it. But if not, right now I’m just going to focus on myself.’
