A woman on TikTok is encouraging other women to join her in a new challenge called the “Burn Bra Challenge,” in ongoing calls to protest against Nike’s decision to partner with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

As previously revealed, the company announced its working relationship with Mulvaney earlier this month, wearing some of their activewear apparel including pants and a sports bra. The announcement was not received well over on social media, with people expressing their outrage and questioning why Nike couldn’t just have hired a “real woman” to wear their workout gear.

The problematic comments left the LGBTQ+ community startled, insisting that Nike had done a great thing by taking a chance on a transgender model, which showed that the company was clearly moving towards inclusivity.

Well, according to the New York Post, the conversation is still being had almost a week later now that a woman is calling for a new trend to take off on TikTok where women are encouraged to burn their Nike sports bras to protest against the decision to have a transgender influencer promote women’s clothes.

“Since the 1960s, we have been fighting for the right to be women. Nike, you should be ashamed of yourself,” a TikTok user by the name chatterbox.mama angrily said in her video. “You chose a little boy with no breasts and some junk in his pants to represent real women.” After saying she was done wearing Nike clothes, she burned her bras and encouraged other women to follow suit.

The partnership between Mulvaney and Nike was seen as a significant step forward for transgender representation in sports. Mulvaney’s story was a powerful one, and her involvement in the campaign was seen as a way to raise awareness of the issues that transgender athletes face.

However, the announcement of the partnership was met with a fierce backlash from Nike fans across the world. Many people felt that Nike was exploiting Mulvaney’s story for commercial gain and that the company was not doing enough to support transgender athletes.

Many people within the transgender community have expressed frustration with the way the controversy has been handled, and feel that the focus on the partnership has been distracted from more pressing issues facing transgender people.

In a statement, Nike acknowledged the concerns raised by the transgender community and committed to doing more to support trans athletes. Nike also announced that it would be partnering with several transgender athletes and that it would be making a significant donation to a transgender advocacy group.

The controversy has been a challenging and divisive issue, but it has also raised important questions about the role of corporations in social justice issues, and the need for greater representation and support for all communities.

As a society, we must continue to work towards greater acceptance and understanding of transgender people and to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to participate in sport and other activities, regardless of their gender identity.
