Nike Converts Shoe Parts Into Face Shields For COVID-19 Healthcare Workers
Joining Dior, whose made designer masks for essential workers battling the COVID-19 crisis, Nike is turning their shoe parts into face shields to protect healthcare workers on the front-lines.
The fashion brand has partnered with health professionals at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) to provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in the forms of full-face shields and powered, air-purifying respirator (PAPR) lenses to protect against the coronavirus.

Miko Enomoto, M.D., associate professor of anesthesiology and perioperative medicine at OHSU School of Medicine, says,“The full-face shields help protect healthcare workers’ faces and also help to prolong the length we can safely use a surgical or N95 mask. Nike’s generous response to the COVID-19 crisis helps to instill an added layer of confidence and support for healthcare workers, that we can safely carry out the jobs we were born to do.”
Furthermore, Nike explains that they’ve repurposed the collar-padding from shoes, cords from apparel, like bags, and the plastic used for their signature Air soles.
