Bre Tiesi, the reality TV star and ex-girlfriend of Nick Cannon, is making headlines for her comments about child support. While appearing in a recent episode of the Netflix show “Selling Sunset,” Tiesi faced questions from her co-workers about the logistics of child support when there are  10 children or more kids involved. Tiesi responded by saying that she doesn’t rely on Cannon to finance her life or that of their child, sparking a debate, with some people wondering whether Cannon should have to pay or not. While Tiesi didn’t specifically say that Cannon doesn’t pay child support, she did claim that he wasn’t legally obligated to do so.

“There’s no legal agreement. We don’t have any of that. I take care of myself,” she explained. “If my son needs something or we do, I ask, that’s all I have to do. I know he’s a good dad and, like, Nick is not my sugar daddy. I’ve worked my ass off to be where I’m at. I did this all by myself. And of course, my son is even more of a motivation. I want to give him everything from me. Not from my partner.” After the episode aired, her lawyer, Neama Rahmani, gave a statement to PEOPLE to clarify her remark.

“Nick, or any father, is obligated to pay child support under California law regardless of the number of children he has,” he told the publication. “Courts consider the parents’ income, the cost of child care, and the amount of time the child spends with each parent. Judges do not cap child support after a certain number of kids.” Tiesi and Cannon welcomed a baby boy named Legendary Love back in June of last year.

Of course, not everyone is a fan of Tiesi and Cannon’s relationship. On “Selling Sunset,” some of Tiesi’s co-workers criticized her for her parenting skills and for being with a man who has had multiple children with different partners over the years. One agent even called their relationship “off-putting.” Despite the criticism, Tiesi has stood by Cannon and defended him against negative comments on social media.

Fans have been speculating that the “Wild N Out” star’s baby-making spree could be related to his lupus illness. Cannon has been living with lupus for 11 years now, a chronic autoimmune disease that can cause inflammation and damage to various parts of the body, including the kidneys, heart, lungs, and brain.

Lupus nephritis is a severe complication of lupus that affects the kidneys and can be fatal if not treated properly. Cannon himself has faced near-fatal situations like kidney failure and blood clots in his lungs but has made lifestyle changes to manage his illness better.

In early 2022, Cannon marked the 10th anniversary of his lupus diagnosis with a throwback video that detailed his health journey. In it, he spoke about how he fought against the disease and made changes in his diet and lifestyle to keep himself healthy.

Cannon himself has denied these rumors and stated that he loves being a father. He believes that having a big family is a blessing and that his kids bring him joy and happiness. He has also clarified that his decision to have children has nothing to do with his illness. Recently, Cannon was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia, which caused concern among his fans about his health condition.
