Grammy-nominated R&B singer Nicci Gilbert has condemned rapper Yung Miami’s “Spend Dat” song, threatening to stop the viral hit from earning a Grammy, and insisting that all “ratchet-a**, ghetto-a**, low vibrational-a** music” is plaguing our communities.

Nicci Gilbert first appeared to slam Miami’s viral and chart-climbing song back on June 21 in an episode of her YouTube series, “Diary Of A Diva.” In the nearly 1-hour-long video, Gilbert talked about the song’s messaging and cultural influence.

She even said it’s “crazy as f**k” for children to be participating in the “Spend Dat” dance challenges. She continued to claim that she “hates” the song, but doesn’t dislike Caresha. Gilbert actually thinks she’s “stunning.” She mainly hates the message it tells the community.

After witnessing Yung Miami receive a standing ovation during the 2026 BET Awards — which showed the audience singing Miami’s song acapella as she walked on stage to present an award — Nicci Gilbert continued to condemn the song.

Nicci Gilbert Slams Yung Miami’s “Spend Dat” Song For Being “Ratchet, Ghetto, And Low Vibrational’

On July 1, Gilbert further explained her “unpopular opinion” about “Spent Dat.” She insisted that “A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) and ratchet-a**, ghetto-a**, low vibrational-a** music” is plaguing our communities. She also said that she is a voter at the Recording Academy and hopes she can try and stop the song from being nominated for a Grammy.

Gilbert also replied to users in her Instagram comments. Some even tried to call her a hypocrite for condemning Miami’s song about boosters and scammers when she filed a lawsuit against Lionsgate and Starz for Katori Hall’s television series, ‘P-Valley’ — which Gilbert claimed infringed on the copyright for her 2011 musical stage play ‘Soul Kittens Cabaret.’

Nicci Gilbert’s second condemnation on Yung Miami’s song arrived after R&B and Neo-Soul singer India Arie slammed the track. On Tuesday (June 30), Arie claimed folks are clearly “not ready to get free.”
