A Milwaukee news anchor is temporarily suspended after posting on Facebook asking why 2020 took “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek instead of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

According to the New York Post, WITI’s main anchor Ted Perry was suspended by the Fox-owned news station after he posted the now-deleted post on his personal Facebook page. It reads, “2020 takes Alex Trebek but leaves Mitch McConnell? “Just end already.” Shortly after the post went viral, Perry deactivated his Twitter page and Facebook but his official Facebook page under the news station has yet to be updated as of last Saturday.

Following the deactivation of his social media pages and backlash from conservatives, Perry issued an apology. He wrote, “I made a statement on my personal page that was insensitive and does not reflect my journalist values and I was not speaking on behalf of my employer. I deeply apologize for my inappropriate and outrageous comments and have deleted them accordingly.”

It is unclear if the 56-year-old news anchor will be paid during his suspension despite critics asking the Fox-affiliated news station to immediately fire him for his “biased” comments.
