The latest stats show that New York remains the hardest-hit city in the country; a quarter of the known fatalities in the U.S., which had more than 80,000 deaths and about 1.3 million confirmed cases as of Monday night, according to data tracked by Johns Hopkins University.

As of Tuesday, New York State as a whole, had a total of 27,003 confirmed COVID-19 deaths, according to state statistics.

The growing numbers are one of the big reasons why Gov. Andrew Cuomo hasn’t been so quick on reopening the state. However, he recently announced that the hardest-hit state in the union will begin a staged reopening this Friday. During a conference, Cuomo explained that those areas had met seven metrics that will be used to determine when loosening restrictions are appropriate.
