Welp, Donald Trump and his legal team better suit up because their attempt to dodge the sentencing date in the hush money saga has been thwarted once again. This Thursday; The New York appeals court has officially denied Trump’s request to halt the proceedings set for this Friday.

As previously reported, Mr. Trump made a last-ditch effort on Wednesday, asking New York’s highest court to pause the proceedings. On the same day, he turned to the U.S. Supreme Court, hoping for a reprieve. But it didn’t work. Prosecutors from the Manhattan district attorney’s office wasted no time in countering his claims, arguing that Trump’s insistence on “president-elect immunity” is nothing short of “utterly baseless.”

In their Thursday filing, the prosecutors laid out their case. They cited the “overwhelming” evidence presented to the jury, highlighting not just Trump’s actions but also his “contemptuous conduct in court.” The filing went on to state, “And notwithstanding defendant’s past and upcoming service as President, his history, character, and condition — and especially his open disregard for the justice system — do not support dismissal.” Ouch. That sounds like a legal smackdown.
Now, while Trump is looking at a potential four years behind bars, Judge Juan Merchan has hinted that he might opt for an unconditional discharge. So what would that look like? This would ultimately mean that Trump could avoid prison time, fines, or probation.
