New social distancing guidelines have been enforced for the Vice Presidential debate after President Trump tested positive for the coronavirus.

According to the New York Post, the Commission on Presidential Debates has come to an agreement after Joe Biden’s campaign team demanded better safety protocols for the debate between Vice Pres. Mike Pence and Sen. Kamala Harris. The two candidates will now be 12 feet instead of 7 feet apart and Biden’s team asked if the pair could stand throughout the debate but the offer was rejected by Republicans.
The Trump campaign team originally declined to change the social distancing guidelines but spokesman Tim Murtaugh said they were “open to more space between the two candidates.”

Politico reported the Trump family refused to wear masks during the first Presidential Debate despite it being a part of the venue’s policy.
The Vice President has tested negative for COVID-19 and the debate will take place in Salt Lake City, Utah. Currently, President Trump is receiving treatment at the Walter Reed Hospital after experiencing symptoms of fatigue and other ailments from the virus.
