New Orleans Mayor Cancels Mardi Gras Parades In 2021
Welp although vaccines are in the works and showing positive results, New Orleans is already locking down a few events for 2021. According to Fox News, the Louisiana City just announced that its annual parades, which were previously scheduled for January and February, will be canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell’s office posted a statement saying, “The City of New Orleans cannot cancel Mardi Gras because it is a religious Holiday, however, we will not be able to celebrate the Holiday this year as we have in the past.”
The office further specified: “Parades of any kind will not be permitted this year because large gatherings have proven to be super spreader events of the COVID-19 virus,”
The mayor’s move comes shortly after the Krewe du Vieux, one of the city’s most popular Carnival organizations, announced last week it would not parade in 2021. While their canceling the holiday as they stated, Cantrell’s office has asked the public to share ideas about how to celebrate the holiday safely. People are able to submit detailed plans for socially distanced celebrations with safety protocols built in.
