Authorities say a New Jersey woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly stabbing another shopper in the parking lot of a Marshall’s — all because of an argument over how slow the checkout line was moving.
The Confrontation
According to ABC 7, 25-year-old Amber Thompson reportedly threatened to harm the woman while waiting in line at the Marshall’s store on Passaic Avenue in Kearney. Police say that after the argument, Thompson left the line, went to purchase a set of knives, opened the packaging, and chased the victim into the parking lot.
Investigators say she then stabbed the woman multiple times before fleeing back inside the store.Police reported that the victim and her family had already left the store and were heading to their car when the attack happened. The woman was later taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers found Thompson hiding in the store’s bathroom with a bloody knife left on the baby changing station. Kearney police confirmed that she was taken into custody without further incident.
The Charges
Thompson now faces several charges, including:
- Aggravated assault
- Unlawful possession of weapons
- Possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose
- Endangering another person
The motive, police say, was tied to frustration over how slowly the checkout line was moving.
