Nettie’s House of Spaghetti announced the decision in an Instagram post explaining their new policy and said accommodating children has been challenging. “Lately, it’s been extremely challenging to accommodate children at Nettie’s. Between noise levels, lack of space for high chairs, cleaning up crazy messes, and the liability of kids running around the restaurant, we have decided that it’s time to take control of the situation,” they explained.

They added that they knew the decision would upset patrons. Still, recent events have caused them to change their policy: “We know that this is going to make some of you very upset, especially those of you with very well-behaved kids, but we believe this is the right decision for our business moving forward.”

According to NBC New York, some patrons were pleased with the new policy as some people do not like to go out to eat when screaming children are involved. However, some parents were upset with the decision as banning well-behaved children in public is unfair. “People don’t care what their kids do, so they just let them run around,” said one patron. “I guess they don’t want to pay for a babysitter, so they just bring them with them,” one patron told the outlet.

“Why are people getting mad? Everyone knows there are some parents that don’t watch their kids. People just want to have an undisputed dinner without some kids running around, screaming or throwing food all over the place. It’s disrespectful to others and the business”

“10000% agree. Having worked & still do in high end restaurants- kids have no place. No one wants to hear them screaming / running and no one wants to hear the blaring i-pad at your table. You’re going somewhere to enjoy yourself and spend a good dime. Why bring them? Lol I’ll definitely be dining”

“I love this decision. Nothing frustrates me more as a single working mom then when I get the rare chance to go out (with adults and not children and not to an Applebees or kid friendly restaurant) and there are kids not only acting up but parents completely oblivious to it and not even trying to discipline their children. I applaud this decision and can not wait to come dine there!”

The restaurant also offers two options: kid-friendly and kid-free, and the new policy will be enforced on March 8.

  1. I’m a little confused as the article says the restaurant is banning children from eating there after a certain date (although it doesn’t specify if they mean under 12 years old , under 18 years old or what age) but then at the bottom it says they offer two options -kid friendly or kid free. So which is it?

  2. I was out having lunch by myself and fortunately at the end of my meal when a family of four comes in. The kids had a megaphone and train respectively and were loud beyond belief while the parents sat and smiled over their menus. Ten minutes of this and I was out of there! Parents, this isn’t your living room or even your house! Get a grip!

  3. Excellent idea some people don’t control their children I have seen it a million times. In Europe the will ask you to leave if your children are being bad

  4. There are places for kids to eat and be kids so where is the problem for Adults and children 11 and up? And it is too bad for the parents who have raised their kids to behave in public but in reality it’s not the 10 and under crews fault. It’s the parents. I read things like this all the time. Out of control kids on airplanes, restaurants, movies, etc. Other people should not have to endure this. I would love to see more of this!

  5. My family has owned a cafe/dinner my whole life and we have been in this industry in my family now for 3 generations and let me say this is so sad to see!!! Everyone was a young kid once.. imagine how you would feel to know kids can’t eat spaghetti because the owners are idiots and banned kids all together wow what a treat to ban this business I will happily never go to this business And I know they will get the backlash they deserve lol what a joke 💯 DISCRIMINATION!!!!!!!

  6. I absolutely agree with the restaurant’s decision and I don’t blame them one single bit. I had one child who NEVER misbehaved in a restaurant because she knew better….we taught her very young about respect for others, including other patrons trying to eat a nice meal. Parents don’t parent any more. Pathetic.

  7. I think it’s a GREAT idea! When we go out to dinner at a good restaurant, we want to relax & enjoy ourselves. We can’t do that when there’s cryin’ babies, kids screamin’ & runnin’ all over the place! We SUPPORT the decision to not welcome those under 10!
