New Jersey Landlord Praised For Waiving Over Three Months Of Rent For Tenants

A New Jersey landlord is being praised for his act of kindness after he waived three months of rent for his tenants amidst the Coronavirus crisis.

WABC reports that David Placek owns 12 properties in Montclair and is waiving over $50,000 through June to help his tenants out during this difficult time.

“By and large we’ve gotten a good reception from our tenants, they’re happy that we were able to do this early on and really able to show them some compassion and feelings for what they might be going through,” Placek said.

Placek owns 12 properties with each unit costing $1,200-1,500 to rent per month. He said he was tired of sitting at home and not being able to help.

“It’s hard to help, you can’t go physically do a lot of things, you probably don’t have the financial resources to write a check so what can you do?”

Governor Phil Murphy also praised Placek on Twitter following his kind act,

“David exemplifies the spirit we need to see right now of people stepping up to make sure others can come out of this emergency stronger and so we all come out of this stronger. Hats off, David.”

David added that he wanted nothing in return, but for his tenants to hopefully pay it forward to somebody else.
