New England Patriots QB Cam Newton Reportedly Tests Positive For COVID-19

In a Saturday statement, The Patriots said that an unidentified player tested positive for the virus late last night and that he immediately entered quarantine. Players, coaches, and personnel who interacted with the player, the team said, have been tested as of Saturday morning and all the tests came back negative.

“Late last night, we received notice that a Patriots player tested positive for COVID-19. The player immediately entered self-quarantine,” the Patriots said in a statement Saturday. “Several additional players, coaches, and staff who have been in close contact with the player received point of care tests this morning and all were negative for COVID-19.”

Newton’s positive test comes as, eight members of the Titans – three players and five staffers – tested positive on Tuesday. The number swelled to 18 by Saturday morning. On Friday, the Titans–Steelers game scheduled for Sunday – which had been postponed earlier in the week – was pushed to late October.
