Reed Hastings has made a significant financial contribution to Kamala Harris’ 2024 election campaign by cutting a $7 million check!
The donation was announced by the Netflix co-founder and executive chairman in an interview with The Information, a tech-focused publication. “After the depressing debate, we are in the game again,” Hastings told the outlet. He also revealed that it was the largest donation he had ever given to a single candidate.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, earlier this month, following Joe Biden’s performance in the first presidential debate, Reed Hastings publicly expressed his frustrations with the president’s potential bid for re-election and called for him to step down. “Biden needs to step aside to allow a vigorous Democratic leader to beat Trump and keep us safe and prosperous,” Hastings expressed to the NY Times.
At that time, Reed Hastings joined a rising number of prominent Democratic donors, notably from the entertainment industry, urging Joe Biden to reconsider running for re-election. According to the New York Times, Hastings and his wife, Patty Quillin, have collectively contributed over $20 million to the Democratic Party in recent times.
On Tuesday, Hastings tweeted, “Congrats to Kamala Harris — now it is time to win.”
Following Joe Biden’s unexpected announcement to withdraw from the re-election campaign, Democratic leaders, donors, and followers have united in support of Kamala Harris, who has now secured the majority of delegates to become the official presidential nominee of the party. In a remarkable display of enthusiasm, Harris managed to raise a record-breaking $250 million for her campaign in just over two days, as reported by the Washington Post. The Hollywood Reporter also disclosed that the news of Biden’s decision to step aside in favor of Harris has energized donors from the entertainment industry, with many lining up to generously contribute to the former California senator’s campaign.
