Netflix Delays Virtual Preview Of ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ After Chadwick Boseman Death

After the incredibly saddening death of Chadwick Boseman, Netflix is delaying the virtual preview of ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,’ the latest feature the actor was set to star in, alongisde Viola Davis and Colman Domingo.

As many fans, family and close friends continue to mourn the loss of Boseman, who passed away Friday (Aug 28) after a 4-year battle with colon cancer, which he kept entirely private, Netflix has released statement.

It reads, “We are heartbroken over today’s news of the passing of Chadwick Boseman, a ‘true fighter’ as his family called him in their poignant tribute. This is an incredible loss. We are canceling Monday’s preview event of ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.’ Please join us in sending your thoughts to his family and loved ones.” Meanwhile, Ted Sarandos, Netflix co-CEO and chief content officer, wrote his own statement and hailed Boseman as “a superhero on screen and in life.”

He adds, “It’s impossible to imagine working at the level he has while valiantly battling his illness. His legacy as a person and an artist will inspire millions. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family during this difficult time.”

Furthermore, the film was due for release later this year as filming had completed. Updates on the scheduled release of the film have not been made.
