In true Nene Leakes fashion, the reality star is setting the record straight! The former Real Housewives of Atlanta star is responding to a report that claims she is being sued for unpaid rent for her old clothing store, Swagg. On Wednesday TMZ reported that her former landlord at Sugarloaf Mills — the shopping center where her women’s clothing store was located — is taking the legal steps so she could pay off the balance of $22,900 owed under the lease.
It was noted that Leakes first signed a lease agreement back in 2017 and then extended it for another year in 2021. The news site reported that the landlord allegedly sent NeNe a letter last month, telling her to pay up so they could avoid a legal battle but because she allegedly never coughed up the money, the landlord now has to drag her to court. Not only does he want damages to cover the back rent but also to cover the attorney’s fees.
Nene has caught wind of the news on @thebravoshaderoom and responded to a fan who commented, “She is literally grieving her husband today as it’s his bday, have some empathy.” Leakes replied to the IG user on Wednesday and said, “Gregg signed the lease not me! He ain’t here.”
On Wednesday (Aug. 16,) Leakes made a tribute post to her late husband on Instagram as if marked his birthday. She said over two pictures of them together, “ Happy Heavenly Birthday Gregg! Today you would be out eating your favorite foods! French Fries and chicken tenders. I love you for that.” She added, “It was the simple things about you that got me every time! I love you and miss you more than words can say!

As we previously reported, Gregg Leakes was 66 years old when died following a battle with colon cancer in 2021. Gregg Leakes was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer in 2018, but it went into remission after treatment. In June, 2021, NeNe Leakes shared that the cancer had returned and that her husband had undergone surgery.
Before his passing, Leakes had been by his side every step of the way. Although he’s no longer here, she continues to honor him.
Over on her Instagram Stories, NeNe also posted photos of her visiting Gregg’s mausoleum. Shes seen wearing a burgundy outfit as she places her hand on his plaque. She also shared another post of his stone which reads “Forever in our hearts. Gregory Leon Leakes. August 16, 1954-September 2, 2021.”
