Nebraska Teen, 16, Arrested After Allegedly Cutting Her Newborn’s Throat

A 16-year-old in Nebraska was taken into custody after being accused of killing her newborn baby, according to People magazine. 

The news publication added that the mother gave birth to the baby on November 6th and the child’s father found the baby dead in her bedroom. The father called 911 and told authorities the baby wasn’t breathing. Once authorities arrived at the scene they saw the girl and her mother with the infant, who was wrapped in a towel. The teenager’s mother told cops, “She hurt him.”

The mother spoke with authorities and said she found blood on the walls and floor of the girl’s bedroom while she was out, and when the teen returned home, she told her mother that the baby was “dead” and that “she killed it.” Her father reportedly found the baby in the teenager’s closet, covered in clothes and inside a dog food bag, according to the report. The father also attempted to save the baby by performing CPR before he ended up calling 911. One of the responding officers noted that he saw multiple stab wounds on the newborn and its throat had been cut. 

The teenager had taken a knife from the kitchen of her home in Gordon, Neb., according to statements from her parents to authorities, the Star Herald reported, citing the affidavit. The knife was later found in her closet.

When the teenager returned home, she admitted to having killed the baby, according to the affidavit.

The teenager was treated at a local hospital and reportedly underwent surgery following the encounter with authorities at her home.

On Nov. 9, she was arraigned on charges including first-degree murder and the use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony. The Star-Herald reported that she is being held without bond.
