Nebraska GOP Gov. On Marijuana Decriminalization: ‘If You Legalize It, You’re Gonna Kill Your Kids’
Nebraska GOP Gov. Pete Ricketts is not here for marijuana decriminalization. At a recent press conference, he claimed “it’s a dangerous drug. If you legalize it, you’re gonna kill your kids.”
On Wednesday (Mar. 10), Gov. Ricketts addressed a new bill that looks to legalize medical marijuana in the state. Opposing it being passed, he stated, “This is a dangerous drug that will impact our kids. If you legalize marijuana, you’re going to kill your kids. That’s what the data shows from around the country … Big pot, big marijuana is a big industry. This a big industry that is trying not to be regulated, to go around the regulatory process. And that’s going to put people at risk, when you go around regulations that are designed for the health and safety of our society.”

It’s clear that Gov. Ricketts is calling marijuana dangerous as it’s often considered a “gateway drug” — which will lead to more dangerous and hard drugs like cocaine, heroin, etc. Additionally, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, say a fatal marijuana overdose “is unlikely.” However, if one consumes too much THC, it may result in “extreme confusion, anxiety, paranoia, panic, fast heart rate, delusions or hallucinations, increased blood pressure, and severe nausea or vomiting.”
