Naya Rivera’s Ex-Husband Ryan Dorsey Files Wrongful Death Lawsuit On Son’s Behalf
Naya Rivera’s ex-husband, Ryan Dorsey, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of their son, Josey, following the star’s death.
Dorsey is suing the Ventura County United Water Conservation District and the county’s Parks and Recreation Management for the wrongful death and negligent infliction of emotional distress.
Us Weekly reports that Dorsey and her estate filed the paperwork on November 17.
The suit alleges that Rivera’s death was highly preventable and that the boat that Rivera and he son were on at Lake Piru didn’t follow with the Coast Guard’s safety standards, and failed to have the correct flotation devices.
“[The boat] was not equipped with a safely accessible ladder, adequate rope, an anchor, a radio or any security mechanisms to prevent swimmers from being separated from their boats,” the complaint states. “Disturbingly, later inspection revealed that the boat was not even equipped with any flotation or lifesaving devices, in direct violation of California law, which requires that all pontoons longer than 16 feet be equipped with flotation devices.”
As we reported, Naya was confirmed dead at age 33 in July. She went missing five days prior on a boating trip at Lake Piru.
