National Black Justice Coalition Calls For Netflix To Remove Dave Chappelle’s Latest Comedy Special

Dave Chappelle has a growing wave of criticism coming his way for his comments about the LGBTQ+ community in his latest Netflix stand-up special.

The special, “The Closer” hit Netflix on Tuesday and was meant to serve as his final entry in a series of comedy specials by Chappelle being presented on Netflix. In the latest special he spoke about DaBabys controversial rant that took place on his set of Rolling Loud.

Now we know Dave is not afraid to speak his mind, even in his previous stand-ups  “Equanimity” and “Sticks and Stones,” he spoke about how he has faced criticism over the past two years for making jokes about the LGBTQ+ community.

GLAAD, released in a statement on twitter stating, “Chappelle’s brand has become synonymous with ridiculing trans people and other marginalized communities.”

The National Black Justice Coalition, a civil rights advocacy group serving the LGBTQ+ community also released a statement sharing, “With 2021 on track to be the deadliest year on record for transgender people in the United States — the majority of whom are Black transgender people — Netflix should know better,” NBJC executive director David Johns said in a statement. “Perpetuating transphobia perpetuates violence. Netflix should immediately pull ‘The Closer’ from its platform and directly apologize to the transgender community.”
