Nancy Pelosi Tears Up Over Capitol Riots — Gives Tour Of Vandalized Office
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) appeared on “60 Minutes” to discuss the deadly Capitol riots and the aftermath from it all.
While speaking with CBS’s Lesley Stahl, Pelosi got emotional and tried to hold back tears as she blamed President Trump for what she calls a “terrible violation” of the legislative branch of the U.S. government.
She also gave Stahl a tour of the damage done to her office when Trump supporters breached the U.S. Capitol building in an effort to stop Congress from certifying President-elect Joe Biden’s Electoral College victory. Pelosi showed Stahl the door that was broken in during the riot. She also showed a conference room where she said her staffers barricaded the door and hid under a table with the lights off during the attack. Pelosi said rioters also smashed a mirror in her private office, stole a computer, and more. During her interview, Pelosi told “60 Minutes” that the rioters “were vocally saying ‘where’s the Speaker? We know she has staff. They’re here someplace. We’re going to find them.'”
As we previously reported, the FBI last week arrested the Arkansas man Richard Barnett, who was photographed with his feet on a desk in Pelosi’s office. He confirmed his identity to multiple news outlets and said that he took a piece of mail from Pelosi’s office, in addition to leaving a profane note. As the Associated Press notes, he now faces three federal charges, including knowingly entering or remaining on restricted grounds without authority, violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, and theft of public property or records.
