Nancy Pelosi Joins Schumer In Calling For Trump’s Removal Through 25th Amendment

Making an attempt to dump Trump: Several Democratic and Republican lawmakers are calling for the removal of President Donald Trump a day after pro-Trump rioters rampaged through the Capitol, violently forced their way into a session of Congress and left a trail of destruction in their wake.

Trump stood by for hours until finally addressing his supporters — telling them, “we love you, you’re very special” and doubling down on the baseless claims that the election was “stolen from us” before adding “we have to have peace, so go home.”

Due to yesterday’s chaos and lack of leadership, Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday that Congress may now be prepared to impeach Trump if the vice president did not immediately invoke the 25th Amendment, which would remove Trump and put Vice President Mike Pence in power, with just two weeks before the president is set to leave office.

“I join the Senate Democratic leader in calling on the vice president to remove this president by immediately invoking the 25th amendment,” she said. “If the vice president and cabinet do not act, the Congress may be prepared to move forward with impeachment.”

In a statement earlier Thursday, Schumer said Congress “should reconvene to impeach the president” if Pence and the Cabinet do not invoke the 25th Amendment. Pelosi said lawmakers “may be prepared” to take the step if executive branch officials do not try to remove him. She added that the move would have “overwhelming” support within her caucus.
