In a bizarre and disturbing scene, a naked man was caught hiding in a tanning bed after allegedly attempting to set a Planet Fitness on fire. The incident occurred on July 19 at the South Tamiami Trail location in Venice, Florida. According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of a nude man behaving erratically inside the gym just before closing time.
Before being found, the suspect—later identified as Henrry Antunez-Alvarad—was reportedly running around naked, climbing into the gym’s ceiling, and trying to start a fire in the men’s bathroom. Security footage also captured him walking into multiple restricted areas, including laying nude on a hydro-massage bed, FOX 13 reported.
Authorities arrested Antunez-Alvarad at the scene, where he was discovered inside a tanning bed with smoke still visible in the locker room.
Suspect Exhibited Erratic Behavior Before Attempted Arson
According to the sheriff’s report, Planet Fitness staff had asked Antunez-Alvarad to leave the facility shortly before the gym’s closing time. Instead of complying, he allegedly removed all of his clothing, exposed himself to employees and customers, and then fled through the gym while undressed.
Witnesses reported that he tried climbing into the ceiling and caused visible property damage before entering the bathroom, where he allegedly attempted to ignite a fire.
Body camera footage obtained by authorities showed smoke in the men’s locker room, broken ceiling tiles, and scattered debris. “Saturday night, deputies responded to the Planet Fitness on South Tamiami Trail after reports of a naked man running through the gym, crawling into the ceiling, and attempting to start a fire in the bathroom,” read a statement from the sheriff’s office.
