Muslim Model Halima Aden Quits Runway Over Religious Beliefs

High fashion model Halima Aden reveals that she is quitting runway modeling as it goes against her religious beliefs.

The 23-year-old took to Instagram to reveal that she had been thinking about her career during the coronavirus pandemic and rethinking her values as a Muslim woman.

“Being a ‘hijabi’ is truly a journey with lots of highs and lows,” she said. “I can only blame myself for caring more about opportunity than what was actually at stake. They could call me tomorrow and not even for $10 million would I ever risk compromising my hijab ever again.”

She blamed the “lack of Muslim women stylists” and thinks that she betrayed her Muslim values.

Following her decision, she got support from models Bella and Gigi Hadid and superstar Rihanna.

Aden is from a Kenyan refugee camp. She moved to America and became the first hijab-wearing woman to appear on the cover of British Vogue and was part of Vogue Arabia’s first group hijabi cover.
