‘Muppet Babies’ Tackles Gender-identity As Gonzo Becomes A Princess

“Muppet Babies,” is tackling gender identity in a way to teach kids aged 3-8 about identity and being the true you.

In last month’s episode, Disney Junior shared a Cinderella-inspired episode titled “Gonzo-rella,” where Gonzo and his friends are prepping for a ball. During the prep, Gonzo spots a dress in a catalog and expresses his wishes to be dressed in a gown.

“Wow! Get a load of that dress! I’d love to wear a dress like that to your royal ball,” Gonzo says to Missy Piggy and Summer.

However, Summer responds with, “Gonzo, Piggy and I are the princesses; we wear the dresses,” Summer explains.

“That’s right,” Piggy adds. “According to the Royal Handbook, the girls come as princesses and the boys come as knights.”

“Oh,” a disappointed Gonzo replies. “Right.”

Fairy ratfather Rizzo sees that Gonzo is upset so he transforms him into a masked princess and at the ball Gonzo is revealed to be Gonzorella. After his friends asked him why he felt like he needed to hide, Gonzo explains that he felt like there was an expectation for him to conform to their norms.

“You all expected me to look a certain way,” Gonzo said. “I don’t want you to be upset with me, but I don’t want to do things because that’s the way they’ve always been one either. I want to be me.”

Despite the message, the conservatives were not here for it and couldn’t help but downplay the importance of teaching children about gender identity.

Of course, Candance Owens had something to say,

“I can’t believe I’m tweeting this but.. they are pushing the trans agenda on children via muppet babies. This is sick and PERVERTED. Everyone should be disturbed by predatory cartoons meant to usher children into gender dysphoria. Bring back manly muppets, anyone?” she tweeted.
