Mother Who Threw Homecoming Party For 250 Teens Says Wearing A Mask Is ‘Child Abuse’

A metro Atlanta mother is under fire for throwing a homecoming party for 250 students during the Coronavirus pandemic, and comparing masks to ‘child abuse.’

WSBTV reports that the party had no affiliation with the high school, and the students did not wear masks or practice social distancing.

WSBTV’s Tyisha Fernandes spoke with the mother who had sold over 300 tickets to the event. She claims that none of the attendees of the Nov. 14th event got sick despite the school sanctioning it.

“It’s my daughter’s senior year, so I hosted a dance,” one parent, Beth Knight, told The Daily Beast over Facebook messenger. “It was terrific.”

“My dance was 11 days ago,” she said. “None of these kids have tested positive for the virus. Adults signed waivers for their kids to attend. Kids who wanted to wear masks brought their own. We had hand sanitizer on every table. We had two police officers and 10 chaperones.”

She believes that she was helping the students’ mental health. However, many had differing opinions.

“I stayed for about an hour and a half,”student Holey Woods said. “There wasn’t a lot of social distancing going on, but there was enough space for everyone to be crowded around and spread out.”

Another student, Chukwudumbbi Ejikeme believes that the event was selfish.

“Just because it’s not affecting you or you don’t, like, experience the symptoms, doesn’t mean that you’re not a carrier to other people who may experience the pandemic even worse,” Ejikeme said. “You have to think about that.”
