A Georgia woman recalls the moment she found her four-year-old son dangling from a hole in their apartment floor.

Last Thursday, Birdesha Weldon of Sandy Springs said she woke up from her sleep when she discovered her son Ethan and dog fell through the hole. Miraculously, her son held on for dear life but their dog Milo fell through the ten-foot floor. “Thank God he was strong enough to hold himself up until I jumped out of bed to get him but other than that, he probably would have fallen through and God forbid broke a leg or arm or died,” she told CBS46. However, Milo survived the fall and medical examiners said he had scratches and bruises.
Weldon added that she had concerns about the floor falling apart since December 2020 and January 2021 so she submitted those concerns through Abernathy Apartments’ online platform.

Since the pandemic, she says the properties have refused to perform routine checks on apartments which can lead to issues like this. Maintenence workers fixed the hole on the same day but Weldon believes they have to continue inspections to maintain the safety of tenants.
“He’s my responsibility. If anything happens to my son, I don’t know what I’ll do. So the simple things– like ‘hey I’m paying my rent and I’ve never been late–come fix the stuff. That’s y’all job.”
