Mother Expecting To Give Birth To Seven Babies Ends Up With Nine!

A 25-year-old Malian woman who was expecting to have 7 babies got a little extra surprise when it was time to give birth.

According to The New York Post and BBC, the mother identified as Halima Cisse gave birth to nine babies in Morocco — making her one of the few women in history to birth nonuplets.

Cisse’s pregnancy had already made national headlines before she went into labor. The nation’s president, Bah N’Daw, even ordered that Cisse be sent to North Africa in late March to be able to give birth with specialists present. She was admitted to a Moroccan clinic on March 20 and remained on bed rest until giving birth by Caesarean section on Tuesday, the minister said.

“The mother and babies are doing well so far,” health minister Fanta Siby told Agence France-Presse, as reported in the Guardian. “I’m very happy,” her husband told the BBC. “My wife and the babies [five girls and four boys] are doing well.”

As the news site notes, a woman who had eight babies in the US in 2009, still holds the Guinness World Record for the most children delivered at a single birth to survive.
