A Morehouse College student has been arrested and charged after a violent altercation involving a Clark Atlanta University student was caught on camera and went viral on social media.
According to CBS News, the incident occurred outside the Legacy at Centennial Apartments in Atlanta. 21-year-old Matthew Gonzales Forestine was identified as the suspect and has been charged with aggravated assault and making terroristic threats. Atlanta police responded to a call shortly after 6:30 p.m. on November 20 about a fight near 120 Luckie Street. The victim, Kayla Bryant, told investigators that the confrontation began while she was riding a Georgia State University shuttle bus.
Incident Reportedly Began Over Minor Dispute
Bryant said Forestine stepped on her foot while she was seated on the bus. When she asked him to apologize, his girlfriend allegedly pushed her, leading to a heated exchange. After getting off the shuttle, the situation escalated further when Forestine reportedly put Bryant in a chokehold and threatened to kill her before witnesses intervened.
Bryant later found video footage of the attack circulating online and decided to post the clip to her own TikTok account, where it quickly gained attention. The footage shows Forestine physically assaulting her while others attempt to pull him away. Forestine was taken into custody and booked into the Fulton County Jail following the attack.
Universities Respond with Zero-Tolerance Statements
Both Morehouse College and Clark Atlanta University (CAU) released statements condemning the assault and emphasizing their zero-tolerance stance toward violence.
Morehouse confirmed that the student was enrolled at the college and stated that disciplinary action would follow the criminal investigation. CAU officials also reminded students of available support services and encouraged them to report any acts of violence, both on and off campus, immediately.
The disturbing footage sparked widespread outrage across social media, with students and alumni from both schools calling for accountability and stronger safety measures in shared student spaces. Atlanta police confirmed that the case remains under investigation. Authorities are reviewing additional footage and witness statements as part of the ongoing probe.
