More Than 500 NYPD Officers Have Tested Positive For COVID-19

Officials say the number of NYPD officers who have contracted the coronavirus has increased within a day after 200 tested positive earlier today.

According to the New York Post, 486 NYPD officers and 71 employees have tested positive for the coronavirus as of Friday. Officials say 200 officers who contracted COVID-19 have increased the number to now 550 and last night, 295 cops were known to have the virus. Currently, Deputy Commissioner John Miller is hospitalized for experiencing severe COVID-19 symptoms.

The only NYPD employee who has passed away due to the virus was 62-year-old, Dennis Dickenson.

Earlier this week, more than 3,700 police officers called out sick and statistics show that it was 11 percent of detectives who called out. Additionally, 33 surgeons, 413 sergeants, 130 lieutenants, 22 captains, and 31 civilian employees have called out for illnesses. Last week, 1,300 police officers were also out of work.
