Oop! A man who was involved in the Montgomery Riverfront brawl on Saturday (August 5) happens to be the owner of a mini-mart in Alabama, and now his store is being hit with 1-star reviews! One person wrote the place has terrible food and a racist ambiance.
As we previously shared, there was a massive brawl that broke out at Alabama’s Montgomery Riverfront Park. Things began after several white people were seen attacking a Black man over a boat dock space.
According to a report from the Montgomery Police Department, officers responded to a disturbance at the 200 block of Coosa Street around 7 P.M. MPD officials said there was a large group of people fighting, leading to several of them being detained, with charges pending.
A number of videos from the incident have since gone viral, showing the massive amount of mayhem that took place at the dock. It is reported that things all began over a pontoon boat that had been sitting inside of a dock space that normally reserved for a riverboat; that specific spot was reserved for the Harriott II Riverboat that was getting ready to unboard its passengers.
In the viral videos, a white man is seen confronting a single Black man, who happened to be a worker at the dock who repeatedly told the man and his group to move their pontoon for the riverboat. To no avail, the dock worker decided to move the boat himself, and that’s when an argument ensues.
Next thing onlookers see are punches thrown and then another white man rushing over to hit the Black dock worker. Other Black onlookers then rush to the dock worker’s defense, and thus the melee continued.

Since the viral mayhem, social media has done what they do best and locate the people involved in the attack against the Black dock worker. Come to find out, one of the white men involved in the viral brawl is the owner of an Alabama store.
According to reports, Chase Shipman is the owner of Vasser’s Mini Mart, which is located in Selma, about 50 miles away from Montgomery Riverfront Park. Shipman ended up taking his store’s official Facebook page to speak out about the incident and get ahead of the backlash, but to no avail because he was then slammed with a whole bunch of 1-star reviews on Yelp.

On his store’s FB page, Shipman wrote, “I am sure most of you have seen the news about the riverboat incident. Yes, I was there, but I was the first to try to get away. You can see in the video I attached, and I do not condone what happened. I tried to stop it and realized that I could not, so I tried to get away. There is a video of me being the first to run away because what was happening was wrong and I did not want to be a part of it. I realize I have a business to run and represent. No charges were filed against me because I was not involved. I know it was wrong and it should have never happened.”
Taking to Yelp and other platforms to review the store, several people have slammed the mini-mart with 1-star ratings, claiming the store has a “racist ambiance,” and much more.
One person wrote, “Entitled thugs. That’s all. Don’t throw rocks and hide your hands. What y’all thought was going to happen?” Another person wrote, “Terrible food. Out of date Service. Racist ambiance. DO NOT SUPPORT THESE MONSTERS!!!”
A third person wrote, “I would give this place zero stars if I could. Note: Racism and entitlement has rotted you to the core and you know what, you might have gotten away with your nasty selves on a different day. God only knows what damage you’ve done to our brothers and sisters in the pas. But not today, Satan! Today, y’all messed with the wrong ones!!”
