Mississippi Barber Who Continued To Accept Clients, Dies From COVID-19

Beloved Brookhaven, Mississippi barber Eugene Thompson has passed from coronavirus (COVID-19) after he continued to accept clients amid the pandemic and lockdown.

Thompson, who owned Taper Nation and Taper Nation 2 barbershops, passed earlier this month on April 4, less than a month after he tested positive for the novel virus. On March 17, Thompson took to Facebook to share his diagnosis and announce that he’d be shutting his doors for the next week.

Sadly, his symptoms worsened and after weeks of fighting for his life, he passed, just days shy of his 46th birthday. Thompson’s sister, Dedra Edwards stated, “He couldn’t get up and walk to the car, not walk around the house cause he couldn’t do that anyway. At 12:22 p.m. the nurse practitioner in the ICU at St. Dominic called me and said his heart stopped and we couldn’t revive him. Our last memory of him is getting on the ambulance. We weren’t able to say goodbye, he was alone my brother was all by himself.”

Upon sharing his diagnosis on Facebook, Thompson stated, “Quarantine yourself stay away from people…places.. or things…I felt a little [achy]… fever was a little high so I came to get checked. Tapernation will be closed for the rest of the week…well deserved rest and relaxation..”

The above post came just hours before his waring to potential clients, “PSA: Due to the coronavirus TaperNation will only be accepting clients that are ONLY receiving a service until further notice… SO if [you’re] not receiving a service … don’t come !!”
