Missing Fort Hood soldier Found Hanging From Tree

The body of missing Fort Hood soldier, Elder Fernandes, was reportedly found hanging a few miles from the notorious Texas army base. He marks the 15th death.

Fernandes, 23, went missingĀ Aug. 17 after a superior dropped him off at a home in Killeen. He was reportedly a victim of sexual abuse. He had transferred units after reporting the abuse.

“At this initial stage of the investigation, there is no indication of foul play,” Temple, Texas police said.

Police were called around 6 p.m. Tuesday for a medical call by railroad tracks that were 25 miles from army base.

“A caller advised that a male was observed near the railroad tracks. Upon officers’ arrival, it was determined that the subject had been deceased for some period of time,” according to the statement.

“Identification found at the scene indicates the victim may be missing Fort Hood Soldier 23-year-old Elder Fernandes. However, no forensic confirmation has been made at this time.ā€

Natalie Khawam, the Fernandes family attorney, shared the news on Facebook,

“We are sickened by this tragedy that has happened one too many times. We are heartbroken for Elder Fernandes’s family,” she wrote. “We will not stop until we find out what happened to Elder. We demand a Congressional Investigation of Ft. Hood. We must protect our soldiers!”

Police say that they are currently investigating, however, there is no indication of foul play.
