Minneapolis Officers Who Murdered George Floyd Seek Delay In Trial

The disgraced police officers charged for the murder of George Floyd have requested for a delay in the trial. They accuse the prosecutors in the case of making the handing off of key evidence difficult and slow.

Robert Paule, who is the defense lawyer for Tou Thao, filed a motion last Friday asking that the trial be moved to July 5 from March, claiming that the case is unorganized and that they need more time to prepare.

Paule also claims that the prosecution is intentionally delaying discovery and not giving them enough time to go over their key witnesses and evidence pertaining to the case.

“The State has held onto exculpatory evidence they had knowledge about for months without disclosing it to the Defense,” Paule  argues. “To date, the State has untimely disclosed evidence eight times amounting to over 15,000 pages of evidence.”

Derek Chauvin’s lawyer Eric Nelson also filed for a delay on Monday. He also claims that the files the prosecution provided are an unorganized mess.

“The PDF files are in absolutely no discernable order,” Nelson wrote. “It appears as if the state has printed the reports, shuffled them like a deck of cards, and scanned them back into the computer to be disclosed.”

They are both seeking for the trial to be pushed back.
