In a heartbreaking and disturbing twist to an already devastating story, a Pennsylvania family is speaking out after receiving anonymous packages mocking their 8-year-old son, who was left paralyzed in a hit-and-run earlier this year.
According to Fox 29, Ny’Leek Ellison was struck by a vehicle in February while walking home from school in Chester, Pennsylvania. He had just exited a SEPTA bus with his brother Ny’Dir when he was hit. The impact left him paralyzed from the neck down. Authorities later arrested 20-year-old Caleb Campbell in connection with the crash.
Now, months later, Ny’Leek’s parents say they’ve been targeted in a cruel and anonymous harassment campaign. The family reported receiving disturbing packages addressed to their son, containing items that mock his condition.
“He’s 8-years-old and he’s paralyzed from the neck down, so he’s basically defenseless. So why direct this anger toward an innocent child?”
— Micah Ellison, Ny’Leek’s father
His mother, Anita Carrington, told reporters that one of the packages included a children’s book titled “The Little Pedestrian’s Guide to Traffic Rules,” a traffic safety-themed coloring book, and a traffic paddle that mimics those used by crossing guards.
Police Investigating as Family Demands Justice
Carrington filed a police report, and Chester authorities are now investigating the source of the packages. At this time, it remains unclear if the sender is local or whether there’s any connection to the hit-and-run suspect.
As disturbing as the packages are, Ny’Leek’s parents are doing their best to focus on his recovery. Despite the severity of his injuries, Ny’Leek is reportedly able to eat and talk, though he remains on a ventilator and requires around-the-clock medical care.
Community Support Grows As GoFundMe Launches
In response to the family’s ordeal, the community has rallied around the Ellisons. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help cover Ny’Leek’s ongoing medical expenses and mobility-related needs. So far, hundreds have donated and shared messages of love and support.
