Miley Cyrus Settles $300M Lawsuit With Jamaican Songwriter
Looks like Miley Cyrus has one less thing to worry about now that a copyright infringement lawsuit has been settled. As we previously reported, her latest lawsuit involved a Jamaican songwriter who accused the pop star of stealing her 2013 smash “We Can’t Stop” from a similar song he recorded a quarter of a century earlier.

Michael May, the Jamaican reggae musician who performs under the stage name Flourgon, sued Cyrus back in 2018. In the lawsuit, he claimed that her song “We Can’t Stop” features a “substantially similar hook” and specifically cites that the line “we run things, things don’t run we” from her hit song was actually stolen from his 1988 song “We Run Things.”
On Friday, May and Cyrus filed a joint stipulation in Manhattan federal court ending the suit with prejudice, which means it can’t be filed again. Although the two finally settled the $300 million copyright infringement lawsuit, the terms of the settlement have publicly not been shared.
Miley has not commented or addressed the lawsuit. Meanwhile, on social media, the singer-songwriter teasing the next chapter of Miley: “New Year. New Era.”
