By September 3, he was in an induced coma after doctors found water in his lungs before he succumbed to his injuries. “Multiple sources have confirmed to me that former Syracuse and #Bills WR Mike Williams has passed away following injuries suffered during an accident while working at a construction site,” Scott tweeted on Tuesday. “The Buffalo native was 36 years old.”

Williams had a rollercoaster of a career in the NFL, particularly during his time with the Buffalo Bills. Born in Dallas, Texas, Williams played college football for the University of Texas and was recognized as a consensus All-American.

In the 2002 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills selected him with the fourth overall pick, hoping he would be a game-changer for their offensive line. However, Williams ultimately disappointed and lost his starting job. Despite starting for four seasons, he is considered a “draft bust” and was named one of the top NFL draft busts from 1989 to 2008.

After his stint with the Bills, Williams played for the Washington Redskins before being released due to health issues. It was a challenging period for him both on and off the field. Despite his struggles, Williams had the opportunity to showcase his talent and skill in the NFL, but unfortunately, he couldn’t live up to the expectations set for him.

On the other hand, another Mike Williams made his mark in the NFL as a wide receiver. He made an immediate impact in his rookie season, setting franchise records for receiving touchdowns.

However, his performance declined in the following years, and he was eventually traded to the Buffalo Bills. Unfortunately, his time with the Bills was marred by suspension and inconsistency. Williams then signed with the Kansas City Chiefs but was later released. After retiring from football, he worked in construction but suffered a life-altering injury that led to hospitalization and ultimately his untimely death at the age of 36.
