While on stage, he joked that Minaj was currently getting “trained on” by Donald Trump and poked fun at her for flaunting a so-called “gold card” visa, suggesting it gave her unlimited residency rights in the U.S., only to imply that it ultimately meant nothing.

In a video posted online, the comedian admitted he went too far and took accountability for his words, explaining that alcohol played a role in his lack of filter that night. He apologized not only to Nicki Minaj, but also to her family, saying the joke wasn’t meant to be taken as disrespectful and acknowledging that he should have been more mindful.
