A woman is facing jail time after she reportedly called in two false bomb threats to her daughter’s school when the child was barred from participating in a school play in Detroit.

According to PEOPLE, Crystal Royster, 42, was sentenced to 18 months of probation, with the first 14 days to be served in Macomb County Jail. As part of her sentence, she must also complete a Class A impulse control course and notify the school whenever she enters its campus. Additionally, Royster is prohibited from contacting any victims connected to the incidents.

False Bomb Threats Lead to School Evacuation

Royster was charged in March 2025 after making two separate bomb reports to Lake Shore High School in St. Clair Shores. Authorities say the threats were made after Royster learned her daughter had been removed from a school play.

The incident forced the evacuation of more than 700 people, prompting a large-scale response from local law enforcement and emergency teams.

Investigators later discovered that Royster had called in the threats as a form of retaliation after learning her daughter couldn’t participate in the performance. The girl was reportedly barred from the play after she became unwell and left early during rehearsal.

Guilty Plea and Sentencing

Royster was charged with false report or threat of a bomb, a serious felony offense under Michigan law. She pleaded guilty in November 2025, avoiding a longer sentence in exchange for probation and mandatory counseling.

Her sentence reflects the court’s decision to hold her accountable while also addressing the underlying behavioral concerns that led to her actions. Authorities emphasized that her bomb threats caused panic and disruption throughout the community, tying up emergency resources and endangering public safety.
